Researchers have created an artificial intelligence tool that utilizes language models to identify ‘fake news’. This tool has been developed to stop the spread of misinformation through stance detection. Based on deep-learning, the AI tool can verify the information provided in posts made on various platforms by comparing it to other posts available on the subject.
The AI tool can detect if information included in a post is supported or not by comparing it to data available on the subject of the post. Researchers explain that if all the information is supported, the post is considered legitimate and if it is not supported, it might be fake news. The AI can also perform stance detection — “predict if the article agrees, disagrees, takes no position, or is unrelated to the claim.”
