3rd AI4People 2019 Forum Meeting – 6th November, European Parliament

On 6th November, AI4People will hold its 3rd Forum Meeting at the European Parliament in Brussels, where the outcome of AI4People’s second year of activity – “Report on Good AI Governance: Principles, Priorities, Models of Smart Coordination, and Regulatory Toolboxes” – will be presented and further discussed.

The Report is the result of one year of joint work between AI4People’s Scientific Committee, Business Partners and Civil Society Organisations.

Launched in February 2018 with a three year roadmap, AI4People is a multi-stakeholder forum that brings together all actors interested in shaping the social impact of AI’s new applications, including the European Commission, the European Parliament, civil society organisations, industry and the media. It aims to create a common public space for laying out the founding principles, policies and practices on which a good AI society can be built.

On behalf of AI4People and its partners, in November 2018, Prof. Luciano Floridi presented at the European Parliament “AI4People’s Ethical Framework for a Good AI Society: Opportunities, Risks, Principles, and Recommendations”- the result of AI4People’s first year of activity.

On 2nd April 2019, the first AI4People Forum Meeting of 2019 was held at the European Parliament, Brussels, where the Agenda for the AI4People’s Scientific Activities for the year was presented.

The second AI4People Forum Meeting 2019 was held on July 10th in Brussels and presented the initial draft and closed the 1st phase of the drafting of the “Report on Good AI Governance: Principles, Priorities, and Models of Smart Coordination”. Members of the AI4People’s Forum, of the European Parliament and European Commission discussed the Report and contributed to the further phase of drafting.

Now, following the AI4People’s Ethical Framework for a Good AI Society: Opportunities, Risks, Principles, and Recommendations, the activities in 2019 are focusing on “Good AI Governance”. The Recommendations of the aforementioned document and its 20 Action Points (AP) are the starting points upon which the 2019 activities are built on; most of the issues on how to assess, to develop and to support a Good AI Society entail complex matters of governance.

More details on the upcoming meeting and the new report will be shared in the coming weeks.
